Lane Furniture began with a simple promise: to create furniture families could cherish for generations. In 1912, John Lane and his son Ed purchased a small box factory in Altavista, Virginia and founded the Standard Red Cedar Chest Company. Their vision was to craft beautiful cedar hope chests that would protect treasured belongings while becoming cherished heirlooms.

Those original cedar chests, handcrafted from aromatic Virginia red cedar, became symbols of American craftsmanship and lasting value. They gained widespread popularity during both World Wars and remain treasured possessions in homes across America today, passed down through generations as family keepsakes.
